Seth Oduro

By mmavhima on August 16, 2024

Faculty: Land and Food Systems

Program: Master of Food and Resource Economics

Year: 2024

Country: Ghana

I am Seth Oduro, a Ghanaian raised in a rural farming community called Essumeja. I have a mindset that is fully aware of the demands of my immediate society and the social contract I have established to make a difference. I had my undergraduate education at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology where I was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. I graduated with first-class honors and received the Dean’s Best Student Award for the most improved Student.

After graduating, I was appointed as a Teaching and Research Assistant for the Department of Economics, at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science And Technology. As part of my assistance to the department’s research efforts, I co-authored the publication “Greening the Future: Unveiling the Link between Industrial Structure Upgrading and Pollution Emission in Sub-Saharan Africa”.  Working as a teaching assistant allowed me to form a network with the students to provide adult education to the elderly in our society which has benefited over 400 elderly people.

Ghana has been facing food security and environmental sustainability recently due to resource depletion and illegal mining activities. Hence, the ultimate objective of my professional career is to undertake research in food security sustainability and Agricultural productivity. The program’s focus on interdisciplinary approaches, policy analysis, and research methods will enable me to effectively address the complex challenges facing Ghana’s food system.

I am excited to be part of UBC’s diverse community which will provide me with rich cultural experience and opportunities to connect with people from different backgrounds.
