I am Benedicta Antwi Boasiako, a dedicated and strong-willed individual with First Class Honors in Geomatic Engineering from the University of Mines and Technology. Colleagues and mentors characterize me as industrious and innovative, emphasizing my perseverance in overcoming obstacles. During my undergraduate studies, I was president of my department’s association, where I started a peer mentorship program to help students develop academic and personal skills. I also visited senior high schools in my area to provide mentorship assistance, listen to students who were struggling, and raise mental health awareness, reflecting my interest in mental health and mentorship. In addition, I was part of a student mapping group that mapped the Apiatse community in Ghana’s Western Region following a deadly explosion caused by a truck bringing explosives to a mining site.
Our team’s prompt and detailed mapping efforts were critical in organizing emergency response and reconstruction, thereby
contributing to the community’s rehabilitation. I am enthusiastic about using my talents to solve problems in environmental management, urban planning, and disaster response. At UBC, I will pursue a master’s degree in Geomatics for Environmental Management, where I hope to expand my knowledge in geospatial data analysis and remote sensing. My goal is to contribute to projects that improve community resilience and sustainability, particularly in underserved areas. I am delighted to immerse myself in Vancouver’s vibrant, multicultural environment and to work with renowned professionals and fellow students who share my
interest in geospatial sciences. I am particularly excited about the opportunity to experience Vancouver’s abundant natural landscapes while also becoming a part of a dynamic community that emphasizes sustainability and inclusion at UBC.
