Lynnet Akech

By maya zwang on July 5, 2017

Akech’s excellent academic performance earned her a Constituency Bursary to attend the Alliance Girls School in Kenya.  As straight-A student, she was consistently ranked among the top students throughout her four years at secondary school, and sees her attendance at UBC as a symbol of hope for girls like herself, who were raised in slums and faced many barriers to education.  Akech’s extra-curricular record reflects her passion for helping her community.  She was a member of the Akinah organization, comprised of 20 girls, whose main focus is to collect materials from members of the community to donate to a local children’s home.  She was an active member of the Kenya Red Cross Society, where she participated in educating her community on disaster management and aversion, and helped to provide shelter and clothing to people living in Kenya’s slums.  Akech plans to study Economics, and is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at UBC.
