Johnston Kirimo (graduated 2017)

Johnston comes from Kilifi, a coastal town north of Mombasa, Kenya. Has been pursuing Bachelor of commerce, specializing in Business Technology Management and Accounting, at the UBC Sauder School of Business. During his time at UBC, he has participated in the Sauder Social Entrepreneurship (SSE) Program – a four-week program aimed at imparting fundamentals of entrepreneurship to youth living in the slums of Kibera and Mathare in Kenya.

He plans to utilize his background in commerce to become a serial entrepreneur and help fellow young people develop an entrepreneurial culture. He strongly believes that entrepreneurship will empower people living in disadvantaged conditions to seek out opportunities that will enable them to be financially free, hence reduce poverty in the country.  This will eventually transform the economy by steering it towards more equitable growth.

He has also just completed an internship at the Competition Authority of Kenya, a government body mandated to ensure market efficiency and consumer protection in the country. Outside of school, he enjoys running and playing soccer to stay fit and healthy. He has been involved with UBC Intermural and is a long time member of the Africa Awareness Chiefs soccer team.

After graduation, Johnston plans to work for at least two years before joining graduate school to pursue an MBA program
