Brian Mukeswe (graduated 2017)

Brian is in his final year studying Electrical Engineering and Commerce. At UBC he has been involved in student leadership as the president of the Africa Awareness Initiative, a student run organization at UBC that promotes inclusive dialogue about Africa on campus; as well as a Community Animator at the Simon K Y Lee Global Lounge, a space on campus that facilitates dialogue and collaboration among globally minded student groups. In addition, he is the Technology Co-chair at the UBC African Business Club, another student led organization that creates a platform for industry professionals and students to discuss enterprise on the African Continent. Brian is also involved in undergraduate research and some of his notable work includes a project aiming to make assistive hearing technologies more accessible and affordable; this research received the UBC International Service Learning award, and was a finalist for the Canada-wide 2016 Sunnybrook undergraduate research prize. As a student researcher at the Advanced Materials and Process Engineering Laboratory at UBC, he is currently studying the use of Solar Photo Voltaic technology in East Africa. Brian also speaks five languages and has a keen interest in effecting social change through entrepreneurship, and using engineering solutions
