Faculty: Land and Food Systems

Program: Master of Land and Water Systems

Year: 2024

Country: Nigeria

Ola is an alumna of the University of Uyo where she graduated with first-class honors from the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Environmental Management. She became the first female to break the record since the department’s inception. Ola is known for her humble approach, dedication and innovative mindset. She is passionate about improving environmental quality and addressing water-related issues.

After earning her bachelor’s degree, she worked as a farm manager at Lebitol Agro Farms. There, she noticed how the community depended on rainwater and the effect on their health. Through a fundraising campaign, she successfully funded the installation of a tap at the farm’s gate which still provides free, clean water to over 50 families in Ahiaba-Ubi. This project significantly enhanced the health and well-being of the local community. As a practicing fish farmer, Ola understands the vital role of water in maintaining fish health and has encountered numerous water-related challenges confronting farmers in Nigeria. Her goal is to enhance water productivity and contribute to global sustainability. Through the Master of Land and Water Systems program at UBC, she aims to become a Water Systems Specialist capable of addressing issues impacting both terrestrial and aquatic environments.

Ola is eager to build strong connections and broaden her knowledge at UBC. She looks forward to exploring the breathtaking landscapes of UBC especially the stunning beaches near the campus.
