Faculty: Science

Program: Master of Data Science

Year: 2024

Country: Nigeria

Hailing from a low-income family, Nonso realized early on that education was a powerful tool he had to fulfill his lifelong dreams of becoming a global change agent. He graduated from the University of Nigeria Nsukka, where he obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering with First-Class honors. Growing up in Nigeria, he witnessed numerous challenges caused by decisions lacking data-backed insights, particularly in the healthcare sector. These experiences fueled his determination to use data science to drive positive change in his community. After graduating, Nonso joined Ehealth4everyone as a Data Scientist, where he developed digital solutions to improve healthcare delivery in underserved communities across Nigeria. His work highlighted the transformative potential of data science in addressing resource allocation challenges and improving patient care.

At UBC, Nonso will pursue a Master’s degree in Data Science as a Mastercard Scholar. He hopes to collaborate with organizations like the United Nations to address data-related challenges in sub-Saharan Africa, develop data-driven strategies, and create lasting impacts on global issues such as healthcare, education, and environmental conservation. This Master’s program will also pave the way for his long-term goal of pursuing a Ph.D. and championing data-driven solutions to uplift underserved communities. Nonso is excited to learn at UBC and network with scholars from around the world, harnessing the immense potential of data science to bring about positive change, one prediction at a time.
