Abdulwasiu Ghazali

By mmavhima on August 6, 2024

Faculty: Land and Food Systems

Program: Master of Food and Resource Economics

Year: 2024

Country: Nigeria

My name is Abdulwasiu Alabi Ghazali, a Nigerian Agricultural and Resource Economics graduate from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). My achievement during high school and undergraduate studies demonstrates my motivation for academic excellence. I completed high school as the most outstanding student receiving a LearnAfrica award as the best student in the 2013/2014 NECO examination in Niger State, Nigeria. Similarly, in my bachelor’s degree, I graduated at the top of my class, emerging as the best-graduating student in my department and the entire faculty of agriculture. Besides, I am a strong advocate of the SDGs and have active experience as a global volunteer for food and the environment with the Youth in Landscapes Initiative(YIL) in Bonn, Germany.

My passion for food, international trade, and policy is a deep-rooted commitment ignited during my professional internship with an agri-food sustainability company. In this transformative experience, I was privileged to assist more than 300 cocoa smallholders in implementing the safety, ethical, social, and environmental dimensions of sustainable agri-food production.

The MasterCard Foundation Scholars Program through the MFRE program and the leadership experience will offer me the perfect study track for economic knowledge, a blend of theories, policies, and the network to further impact the agri-food sector in my country. To sum up, I am excited to work with and learn from the agri-food experts in MFRE and the pool of professionals at the MasterCard Foundation on real-world issues in the agri-food sector and designing modern solutions.
