Akua Sakyi

By maya zwang on July 5, 2017

Akua is a graduate of Holy Child High School in Ghana.  A talented athlete, sports have always been an important part of Akua’s life, especially football.  Keen to share her passion with her community in high school, she formed a sports committee that focused on inclusion and participation, where everyone was welcome to come out and play for fun. Akua is highly involved in her religious community, and volunteered to teach reading classes to children with the goal of supporting them in feeling comfortable reading out loud during church events, and at her community library  to encourage people in her community to cultivate the habit of reading. She also enjoys volunteering her time to teach mathematics to younger children, and believes her passion for math will pave the road to her success in economics.  She is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts at UBC, and hopes to contribute to Ghana’s future as a trained Economist.
